VIDEO: Nick Young, Byron Scott Address Shooting Slump

With Kobe Bryant sitting out another game to rest, it was Nick Young’s opportunity to shine. The Los Angeles Lakers beat the Orlando Magic 101-84 Friday night, but Young went 2-13 from the field and 0-6 from three-point range. He did, however, knock down his 25th consecutive free throw, finishing a perfect 5-5 from the charity stripe.

It was only the second game this season Young has failed to knock a shot down from deep. Over the past six games, Young is shooting just 5-26 (19 percent) from three-point range. During that same six-game span, Young is shooting 20-70 (29 percent) from the field.

After the game, Lakers head coach Byron Scott suggested that Young put a little extra time in at the gym.

The one thing he should probably do is come in a little earlier and get shots up. Other than that, just keep doing what he’s doing,” Scott suggested after the game.

Will Young be putting in some extra time at the gym, per Scott’s suggestion?

It’s not about that. I’ve been in the gym getting shots up. It’s going to come,” Young said after suggesting that what he really needed was “some love” and “a hug.”

In our video above, Young also gives plenty of praise to the rookie Tarik Black, who scored 14 points and pulled down nine boards in his 17 minutes. Entertainingly, Young also explains why he really likes the name Tarik Black, Plus, Young is asked about what’s different about playing without Kobe Bryant.
