Pau Gasol returned to Staples Center Thursday night to face his former team, the Los Angeles Lakers, for the first time since his departure to Chicago during 2014 NBA free agency. Prior to tip, the Lakers honored Gasol with a tribute video and also handed out “Thanks Pau” t-shirts to all fans in attendance.

After the game, Gasol spoke about the emotions running through his mind at the start of the game, admitting that it was hard to focus. Gasol also says that a surprise visit from Kobe Bryant before the game was an “incredible gesture,” one that meant a lot to Gasol.
In our video above, Gasol also reiterates how appreciative he is to the Lakers organization and the fans. However, Gasol also knows he made the right choice to start a new chapter of his career in Chicago.
