VIDEO: Phil Jackson Discusses Tweet To Rapper Kendrick Lamar

PhilJackson3Though Phil Jackson feels physically unable to coach in the NBA anymore, the Zen Master still has plenty of wisdom to offer for those who don’t even play professional basketball.

This past August, Jackson responded via Twitter to some lyrics by Los Angeles-based rapper Kendrick Lamar, who mentioned the 11-time champion head coach on the song ‘Control’.

The line went, “If Phil Jackson came back, still no coachin’ me. I’m uncoachable, I’m unsociable.” As for Jackson’s response, he responded as only the Zen Master can:

“@KendrickLamar It’s okay to be cocky and sure, but we all need somebody to lean on. Let’s just call it mentoring.”

Jackson shed a bit more light on the subject during his recent interview with Seth Davis.

“That’s the wonderful world of Twitter, you can communicate with people who are complete out of your range of influence and your social grouping. The connection between rap and basketball is so deep, that many of the people who tweet back and forth to me were saying, ‘You got to come back at [Kendrick] Lamar after he gives you this.’”

Lamar, who was born and raised in Compton, has Laker ties of his own as he was revealed to be the cousin of current Lakers guard Nick Young.
