Go behind the scenes at City Hall as August 24th is declared ‘Kobe Bryant Day’ by the City of Los Angeles. The date “8.24” was chosen to commemorate the two jersey numbers Bryant wore during his 20-year-career with the Los Angeles Lakers, the longest for any NBA player with a single franchise.

The five-time champion arrived at City Hall with his two daughters and expecting wife Vanessa Bryant. Kobe was honored not only for his basketball achievements but also for his philanthropic efforts, including the Kobe and Vanessa Bryant Family Foundation (KVBFF).

Watch as fans break out to sing happy birthday to their favorite NBA icon, who celebrated his birthday the day prior. Plus, Eric Garcetti, the Mayor of Los Angeles talks about what Bryant has meant to the city. It’s all in our video above, including Bryant’s speech to the city.
